Top 10 Emo Throwback Songs

The angst, the guy-liner, the ripped jeans, and over dyed hair, ya that's pretty much emo in a nutshell. The genre gets a bad rep from the media. Underneath all the black, we all know its really just a bunch of misunderstood teenagers complaining to the world. But we still love it. Everyone went through that phase of rebellion, to varying extents.

Depending on your definition of "emo", you may find some songs on this list, and others not. So if you think we missed one, let us know in the comments. To see our Honorable Mentions please go to our Top 10/Quick Picks page. Any song is fair game as long as it's at least 5 years old.

Top 10 Pop Punk Throwbacks

The genre itself is like one big throwback to our teen years. When guys wore wife-beaters and cargo shorts, everyone had too much hair gel, and Britney Spears was still relevant. It'd hard to pick just 10 songs, so if you don't see your favorite on this list let us know.

Check our honorable mentions list on the Top 10 / Quick Picks page. Any song is far game provided it's at least 5 years old.

The Word Alive - "Dark Matter" Review

Fearless Records is hitting fans hard this month with new albums from Tonight Alive, and now The Word Alive. Their 4th album is the band's "Sempiternal" (if that helps you understand the weight of this album), blowing expectations away, and seriously upping the ante. To buy "Dark Matter" on iTunes please click this (link).

A Day to Remember - "Paranoia" Single Review

Don't you just love it when bands spring a new song on you without any warning? Like winning the lottery. Ok, maybe not that great. But for us poor fangirls and fanguys, that's as good as it gets.

The band's first song in the post "Common Courtesy" era came as a complete surprise to fans. To get the song on iTunes click this (link). And be sure to grab a ticket for their "Just Some Shows" Tour this May with Parkway Drive and State Champs (ya, talk about opposite ends of the field).

Featured Band - Tonight Alive

The beginning of March saw the release of Tonight Alive's 3rd album, "Limitless". And in the past six months, it's been a whirlwind of singles, music videos, and tours leading up to the album. We've got them as our "Featured Band" for March. Hailing from Sydney, Australia the band have certainly made a worldwide mark. To buy their latest album, click this (link). Architects - "A Match Made in Heaven" Single Review

Architects are back and badder than ever! The band's 7th album (can you believe it, 7th?!), "All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us" was announced earlier this week, along with the record's lead single "A Match Made in Heaven". Gearing up to be a great following up to "Lost Forever//Lost Together", this new track certainly packs a punch.

To buy the song on iTunes, and pre-order their new album click the following (link).

The Word Alive - "Made for This" Single Review

The 3rd single, and probably last single before the album's release, off The Word Alive's 4th studio effort. The band are really embracing the whole concept "expansive". They aren't limiting themselves based on genre, or past work. This record is sure to propel them to the top, along side bands like Bring Me the Horizon, and Enter Shikari who are also moving away from traditional hardcore. To preorder the album click this (link).

PVRIS - "You and I" Single Review

Overlook the fact that instead of giving us a new album, Rise is just pulling another "rerelease stunt. Because this new song from PVRIS is epic! This is the first of two new tracks off the deluxe edition of their debut album "White Noise". Be sure to catch them on tour with Fall Out Boy and Awolnation later this month.
